Why do cruise ship speakers need a sense of humor?
So, you are on the stage? And everybody is looking up to you? Literally.
It’s not hard for the speaker to think more highly of themselves. After all, they are up higher.
In this context, I want to emphasize that the speaker cannot take themselves too seriously.

Of course, it helps to be funny, to be able to tell a joke. But that’s not what I mean.
It helps more if the speaker can laugh at themselves. And let their audience enjoy a laugh at their ( the speaker’s) expense.

Speakers need to know they are not almighty, they do NOT have all answers to all questions, they can make mistakes. Roll with them. Laugh at yourself.
