This is the 5th of a 6-part series on how to bring excellence to your cruise ship presentation.
Confidence, Speech, Knowledge, and Earnestness were the first four ingredients.
Love is Key To Excellence
Love is the next to last. Love is not next to last in priority. It is next to last in my series.
The most important ingredient to deliver excellence? I don’t know. Perhaps you can tell me.
- Love is indispensable.
- Love for your topic.
- Love of the opportunity given to share in the vacation time of others.
- Love of people.
Take This Simple Test
When you are asked to speak, what do you think of first?
- How much can I get paid?
- How many people will I be able to share my message with?
For sure, there is nothing wrong with getting paid. Indeed a guarantee of a fat pay check is a great motivator to dig down, prepare and deliver well.

A burning desire – see earnestness – and a real love for people and the difference you can make in their lives because they shared some of their vacation time with you will go a long way.
What are your listeners thinking?
If your listeners leave the room thinking, “Wow, did you get the impression that the speaker really cared about us?” then you have hit on excellence.
If your listeners leave the room thinking, “Last one to the buffet is a rotten egg!” then you have missed the mark.
An excellent cruise ship lecturer realizes that his/her listeners are sacrificing some of their vacation time, that they paid well to get, for the speaker … and delivers accordingly.
If you see the cruise ship speaking opportunity solely as a free trip, you can still do a good job. But excellence will elude you.
Strive for excellence.

You know you want to.
