This is the 4th of 6 posts on ingredients that are necessary to achieve excellence in your cruise ship presentation.
The enemy of great is good. We know that. The enemy of excellence is being satisfied with anything less than that.
Getting by. Delivering. Making everyone happy. Filling the gap.
If all you want is to get the job done, that’s easy. But that’s not excellence.

Excellence is delivering the ‘wow factor.’
Excellence is when people leave thinking loud enough that you can hear them say, “I was not expecting that talk to be that good.”
Earnestness is the next ingredient.
It is not the same as being genuine. Earnestness is that itch you have inside you that dies to get out no matter what.
You can hear earnestness in a speaker’s voice.
- It’s genuine.
- It’s passionate.
- It’s excitable.
- It’s emotional.
Earnestness reflects the heart of the speaker. You can see earnestness in a speaker’s eyes. You can hear it in the inflection of their voice. You can feel it in the wind as they wave their hands and arms.
Earnestness burns inside and the excellent speaker cannot, does not want to contain it. S/he wants to share it.
And when they do, excellence is the result.

You know you want to.
