In my ‘other life’ I work as a content and social media marketer.
I do a lot of research, get a lot of information on why people might want to read, engage in your written content. It occurred to me that the reason people want to read something is not unlike why they want to hear something.

4 Reasons People Want to Hear Your Cruise Ship Lecture
- You INSPIRE. Tell stories, share information, firsthand and secondhand that make people want to jump up and say, “I can do that, too!” Incidentally, inspiration goes well beyond, “I was down but now I am up.” More on that in future posts.
- You EDUCATE. Teach something, Expand the knowledge base. You have been there, done that. Now share what you know so your listeners will be better for having heard you.
- You ENTERTAIN. Your presentations do/must NOT be dry, stuffy, “This is this and that is that.” Liven it up with humor, for example. Reach out and touch the emotions. If you can get tears and laughter in the same presentation you are doing something right. If you can get tears and laughter in the same sentence, you are doing great!
- You LEAD. Predict the future. Analyze the past. Share lessons learned. Tell your listeners what they might expect. Might is the operative word. Leaders do not need to be always right. They do, however, need to be out front … leading.
Conclusion
If you can do one of these four or a combination of these four things in your cruise ship presentations, you can be pretty sure there will be more people in the second and third sessions than there were in the first.
