
I taught university for many years. I used to poke fun until I learned that I was the only one having fun. The poked was not enjoying the moment.
I corrected that flaw in my character by making myself the butt of all of my future jokes.
I do, however, still look for the humor that can often be found in 3rd party far removed unfortunate circumstances.
I read not long ago that event organizers = the people who book speakers are looking for speakers who can make their crowds laugh and shed a tear in the same talk.

Therein lies the creativity = look for the humor in situations. People often laugh at the unfortunate occurrences of others. Let them happen to you. Allow yourself to be vulnerable. Put yourself out there.
And the more you learn to poke fun at yourself, the better you become at it = the more creative you are.
Having a sense of humor can be a valuable asset to making your cruise ship lectures not only more creative but more fun and interesting in general.
