If you decide to take a port tour on your own, there is a risk you may not get back in time. And yes…they won’t wait for you.

There is a bit of safety if you take the cruise ships “excursions” aka tours. Yes, they can cost about twice what you could do on your own by hiring a driver. If a tour costs $120 each …you can get a taxi for way less and it’s for as many as you can fit in.
You will see more than on the bus by a long shot. The buses take about 40 folks…but of all ages and walking ability.

If you are at the back of the pack, you may not hear what the guide is saying. The people up front get to ask questions – you won’t hear them nor the answers.
If you are on a tour that has a few old seniors, they won’t be able to keep up and the guide has to slow down the tour.
Another thing – if you sit in the back of the bus, the guide may say: “We’ll stop here for a photos but just 10 minutes, please.” It will take you four minutes just to get off – so you’re screwed.
OK, if you decide to skip all this and go on your own – good. But be mindful. If you are late for the ship they WILL wait maybe 15 minutes…then call your name to see if you are there. But the ship needs to move out. They are on a schedule like an airline. Bye bye!! See you at the next port – air fare is on YOU!
Look what happened to this couple who were late. Not good.
