There is an industry push to move more passengers across the world. With the cruise industry growing every year, the major lines are keeping the shipbuilders very busy.
Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd has 53 ships in the fleet including these brands: Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Azamara and Silversea. They are pushing to compete with Carnival’s 110 ships. To do that they are going with a size strategy. The Oasis-class monsters are huge, to say the least.

RCL’s giants now sailing are: Oasis of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas , and Allure of the Seas. Each succeeding ship is a tad bigger than the previous so they can claim “The Biggest Ship in the World” status with each new one.
They all measure about 1188 ft long, with over 2700 cabins, 17 decks and cost about $1.3B. The tonnage increases about 1,000 tons and length about 2 feet.
The Wonder of the Seas just began construction with a mid-2021 rollout. It will serve the Chinese market. It will have a maximum number of passengers in the 6800 range. Plus, a crew of 2,000+. Big. There are about 16,000 US cities that are smaller!!! Did you know that?
Read this: It might have been called Melody of the Sea
And they are plowing ahead with even more behemoths. A sixth Oasis-class ship, is planned to be out by fall 2023.
