- The aorta
A friend of mine recently had what’s called an Aortic Dissection.” For us laymen that means his heart aorta had a tear in it. This is extremely life threatening. It’s not a heart attack although the symptoms are very similar. He was driving and felt a dull pain in the chest, then started sweating even with the a/c blowing on full.
The next day he saw a cardiologist who did not like what was revealed and told him to get a “Cat scan” (CT) in a week. He thought it might be a leaking valve in the heart. Not a major big deal, but something that needed to be taken care of.
After the CT, he felt fine and was driving away. He got a call in 15-minutes to get to the Emergency Room – stat! He was met by 3 doctors who put him into a helicopter to Stanford Hospital only 25 miles away. It was that bad and they didn’t want waste the time of an ambulance.
GOOD READ => Commitment
At Stanford, within 10 minutes he began an eight hour operation. It was all successful and he is recovering fine. He’s was great shape – which helped the operation as well as his speedy recovery. The odds of surviving what he had are about 25%. Ugh.
The moral of the story: Carpe Diem. Seize the day. Make today your best. Don’t sweat the small stuff. We all can be gone at a wisp of time. Life is so tentative.
