I came across this video of a cruise ship struggling its way through a massive storm.
When I was in the US Navy, I rode on small frigates and large aircraft carriers (the Midway). Actually, it was a small version of an aircraft carrier with just 4,000 people compared to 6,000+ on the nuclear-powered versions.
Last summer I spoke on Royal Caribbean. Last month I spoke on Celebrity. Rick was on a Crystal.
The Royal Caribbean ship had almost 6,000 people. Celebrity was about half that size with 3,000. And Crystal was half again that size with just over 1,500.
In March I will be on Azamara. The ship is smaller yet with just 900 passengers AND crew aboard.
The smaller the ship the more the storm is felt.
I can remember every now and then we could barely feel the Midway rock, but rock it did. I KNEW the ‘little’ destroyers would be bobbing up and down. And they were.
The US Navy is scared of nothing. Well almost nothing. There was always one thing that would cause us to turn tail and run … a hurricane.
What was the captain of this boat thinking?
