In a previous post I wrote that storytelling should be included in the cruise ship speaker’s toolkit.
Storytelling is Timeless
Here’s another reason. Storytelling is timeless.
Stories have been told since the beginning of time. In fact, the beginning of time was recorded in story form. If you believe that sort of thing. And, I do.
Before there was any means to write the only way to keep a record was via storytelling. Passing down stories of previous generations.
Fast forward several 1000 years and people still love stories. My 7-year old would rather I or my wife tell her story than read her a book or let her play on her iPad till she falls asleep.
There’s a reason why bedtime stories are part of the American if not international way of life.
Everyone Loves a Good Story
Listeners love a good story.
And, to be sure, it’s quite fun to be able to spin a good story. It’s great fun to know you have your listeners engaged … waiting eagerly for the next thing you say, the next turn you are going to take. To hear them laugh out loud, to watch them cringe, to see their eyes light up with a memory of their own.
Storytelling is timeless. The cruise ship speaker who has this gift in his/her tool kit is promised a good report from audiences on board.
