There’s nothing wrong with making it easy for your listeners to follow along in your talk.
In fact, it can be good form.
Words like first, second, third. First of all, next, finally.
Create the Perfect Presentation
Making the transition from point to point is what you do to tie your talk together, to keep it from, well, unraveling.
The speaker knows well when they have grabbed three stories and tried to tie them together into one talk by loosely relating them to each other.
The opposite of that is when a talk builds in intensity and the transitions show a connection where a previous point leads into another. A subsequent point is built upon a previous point.
The points can be build up chronologically, by prominence, in intensity, in relevance … but there has to be a connection. And the good, make that great speaker, will be able to show how a talk fits together with the transitions.
Conclusion
Practice your transitions. Practice leaving one point and going into the next, then the next until it doesn’t make sense if you do NOT use the right words.
Do that and you can have a great presentation.
