I went to Bible college. Actually, it was a seminary when I first started out. It grew into a college. It is now a university.
In Bible college we studied hermeneutics. That’s a fancy word for how to deliver sermons.
Related: Perfect Conclusions to Your Presentation
Lots and lots of preachers will tell you that a good sermon has a good intro, 3 points, 3 illustrations to drive them home and a great conclusion.
Not so.
Create the Perfect Presentation
A good sermon, a good talk, a good presentation has one point. And one point only. A theme that you are wanting to drive home.
There may be 2, 3, 4 or more points to drive that one theme home. But when people leave from your talk there should be just one thing on their mind … the point, your theme.
The theme of your talk is something you can articulate in 10 words or less. Try telling your audience what you want them to know in just 10 words. They try 9, then 8 and work your way down till you can’t do so any more and make your point.
Avoid adjectives and adverbs, conjunctions and articles, and prepositions.
Examples:
Dreamers change the world.
Web developers touch people’s lives
Travel agents change how you live.
Before you talk, imagine a conversation with your 6-year old.
“Daddy, what are you going to tell them?”
“Honey, if they will learn the 3 steps to building their arsenal, they can become dreamers who can affect the lives of everyone in the world.”
“Huh?”
“Dreamers change the world.”
“Oh. You’ll do good, daddy.”
