I live in Silicon Valley. Right in the very heart of it. Within a 12 mile radius I can reach Facebook, Google, Yahoo, LinkedIn and and and …. Seriously.
Like it or not, right or not, Silicon Valley creates buzz. When Silicon Valley catches a cold, the sneeze can be felt around the world … literally. Physically and cyber-ly. <= Is that a word?
A new buzz word is Storytelling.
Videos that tell stories. 140-character stories. Web sites that tell stories. Even the search engines are trying to ‘understand’ the gist of stories so the stories can be found, bringing visibility and riches to the creator.
The short – story telling is where it is at. Everybody loves a good story. Don’t you?
Something like less than 30% of what people here, they remember. But people will remember a good story for a long time.
Cruise ship speakers should tell stories that drive their points home, that make the other content memorable. I don’t tell people that they need to learn how to use Social Media, I tell them how Social Media changes lives. Then I tell them stories about live’s changed. In the end they’ll remember my point because they remember my stories.
Instead of wondering whether or not to tell stories, the cruise ship lecture, gosh, all professional speakers should be asking themselves how they can tell their stories more effectively.
What’s the last story you heard that you remember?
