Being in the public spotlight is not the same as being the center of attention. I wrote about being the center of attention in a previous post.
Being in the public spotlight happens when something you write or something you say, ‘takes on legs’ and a whole lot more people than just those in front of you hear about it.
It’s possible these days with the prevalence of social media – think Twitter in particular. Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn, too.
Are you open to being exposed publicly. Can you endure public scrutiny?
Will what you say, write stand up to a couple of million pairs of eyeballs? One of my articles was tweeted to this many people. 😎
Not everything you say will get passed around the Twitterverse or blogosphere. Indeed most of the things you say will not. But given the right audience and the right topic, being shared with the world can and does happen.
I like to joke when I see someone about to take my picture. “Please tell me before you hit the button, I want to suck my gut in. Oh, and let me know when you’re done so I can let my gut back out.”
To be sure, most people will do their best to expose you, what you say, your weaknesses. And every now and then, your strengths, too.
