Know Your Presentation Mechanics

Writers and cruise ship speakers need to know more than just how to write and speak.

Indeed, writing and speaking are how they earn their money. But there are tools that are needed to perform well.

Writers, bloggers use a CMS – content management system.

Cruise ship speakers cannot get near a cruise ship without the ability to use Powerpoint. And before that the cruise ship lecturer must have a video, and a web site, and a social network presence.

And if the cruise ship seminar leader doesn’t have those things s/he must learn how to make them happen or be willing to pay someone to do it for them.

Once you have the Powerpoint slides (I use Prezi) made, the speaker needs to know how to make the most of them.

Just this past week I heard a very veteran, highly respected speaker (actually he was a preacher) say, “I have never actually used a clicker before.” As good as he is, he wouldn’t make it on a cruise ship.

VGA or HDMI connection? Don’t know what I am talking about? These are basics that the on board speaker needs to know something about so they can do their job. Support is limited to – there’s your podium, there’s the stage, here’s your clicker.

It helps to know the physical mechanics for you to do your job whether on the speaker platform or facing the keyboard.
