
No doubt, Thomas Jefferson wrote one of the most famous and equally effective documents of all time. This may qualify him as one of the greatest wordsmiths of all time as well.
Jefferson said, “The most valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do.”
Do NOT ever work to fill up the time you have been allotted. If you are not agonizing over what to keep OUT you, speaker, have not prepared nearly enough.
Learning to minimize your words does not come easily. People, speakers especially!, are afraid of silence. I mean, isn’t it their job to fill up the silence with great insights, prose, words (audible) of wisdom?

Develop the habit of getting your point across in as few words as possible. Rather than repeating yourself endlessly in different ways, rather learn to say fewer words, repeat them less often and use timing = pauses effectively to let the words sink in.
The adage – the less said, the more remembered – comes to mind.
It is not easy to use less talk when you are a talker. But it’s a good habit to develop nonetheless.
Say it … give it time to sink in. Say it again to make sure. Then move on to the next point.
