
I am a quote guy. I like to hear, remember and use quotes from others I respect.
One of my favorites is by the mailman, Karl Malone. I am not a basketball fan in any sense. I haven’t been since the Royals left Cincinnati after Oscar Robertson retired. Yeah. I am that old.
Karl Malone said something to the effect, “I used to watch inspirational videos. Now I am one.”
Powerful.
For the professional speaker the message is clear – watch those people you give you inspiration and keep on watching. Over time people will be watching you.

I don’t advocate worship of course. But the idea behind the term hero worship is to choose who you want to be like. Who you admire. Who motivates you. Who you want hanging on the poster in your room or office.
Study the masters. Copy what works. Leave out what doesn’t. But remembering to remain genuine. Nobody likes a copy cat. Be you. Because nobody else is going to be you.
And if you are feeling really bold, watch bad presentations, too! Learning what not to do can be equally powerful as learning what does work.
