Speaking to Meetup Groups

I go from presentation to presentation.

I finished a presentation this morning. It was done by webinar. It was the second time I did the webinar on the same topic, but to a different group, so my aim was to do it better than I did the first time. I will do it again next week, tweaking it a bit. My ‘preparation time’ will not be that much.

In comparison to preparing for that webinar, I have another face-to-face presentation to make 10 days from today.

The presentation is local so I won’t have my energy sucked out with travel arrangements and what not. In fact my presentation will be in a room about 10 steps from where I am sitting. I work out of a co-working space in Mountain View, CA (home to Google). Another worker here is organizing an event and she asked me to present to them.

10 days out and I am already thinking about the presentation.

I do not need to come up with original material. The content of the presentation is something I already know.

But the audience is unique and how they will apply the material will be different. In that regard, the presentation will be different.

10 days out I am thinking about who the attendees are, and how can I apply specifically my expertise to them. I can see who the attendees are by name (there is a sign up) and know some of their backgrounds. The more I know about my attendees the more relevant I can be.

10 days out I am trying to learn more, specifically to the individual members, about who will be there.
