Rick told me I could do this. It never occurred to me to try until he brought it to my attention.

Cruise lines are looking for escorts (not the high-priced ones) to help with tours.

On my last cruise speaking gig, I thought I’d give it a try.

Simple enough. I went up to the excursion desk:

“Hi. I am the guest lecturer for this cruise. I understand sometimes you need help guiding tours.”

“Yes, Mr. Belew, we’d love to have your help. Thanks!”

A few minutes later and I was designated the official flag holder, sans flag, for a tour to some Mayan ruins with a guide who talked about human sacrifices.

The price of the tour was $112 for everyone else. I went for free.

The ruins … so, so. But I know now to chase such opportunities again in the future.

Not only does the cruise ship lecturer get a huge feather in his/her cap, s/he gets moxie from the cruisers, crew rates for other amenities – spa, internet, etc. and sometimes free tours.

Next up – the Vatican.

Great advice, Rick!

Bill – Our students are wise to this now. This free tour angle is HUGE. We saw Petra, Ephesus and Luxor for F R E E. I like that price.

    Dear Reader,

We do Option 1 Webinars weekly. Hit HIRE US to join the party. Bring a bag of chips, we are running low.

Totally agree. I love FREE. So does my wife!

I am already scouting out the tours for my next cruise… to see where I can go for free yet again!
