I do special interest lectures on cruise ships. I have been to the Caribbean and am headed to the Mediterranean next month.

My special interest talk is – Social Media for the Cruiser. I am an expert in Social Media Marketing in my other life.

Indeed I tell my listeners about Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn as well as the King – Blogging. But I tell the stories of these Silicon Valley life changers in the context of how it can change the lives of the listeners. That is how knowing what I know about Social Media can motivate my listeners to be better people … if they want to.

From my experience people do not want to just know or learn something new. They want to know WHY they should learn something new and what it is they should do with that new information that can change/improve their lives.

Answering the question of why you need to know this is where the motivation aspect comes in to the cruise ship lecturer’s talk.

Make the connection of why your listeners should care and you have made a big step.

Give your listeners the motivation to act and you will be making giant leaps.
