There are 3 groups of people whose name you will want to remember once you get on board.
You will want to know how to contact the cruise ship director, the activity director and the IT support staff – the guys or girls who set things up for you.
Remember Names in Your Crowd
Another group is the people you come in to contact with.
You will meet people at meals, in the elevator, on deck, in the gym … in all the places where you hang out.
Do not use the excuse, “I am not good with names.” Get good with it.
I can’t count the number of people who have shown up to one or more of my talks because I struck up a conversation with them in passing on the ship.
I also can’t count the number of times I have referred to something they said or told me about themselves and how it connects with my topic.
Right! Eyes light up.
You will also want to remember the names of people who actually turn out for your talk.
During the Q & A – May I ask you your name? What is your interest in this topic?
Talk to the People in Your Crowd
Then I do my darnedest to remember and call them by name during the next talk. Or make a reference to their interest, or strive to address their particular interest in the topic.
If/when the cruise ship speaker does these things, you can expect your talk to be a notch above and beyond all others.
Get a system to remember and interact. You will be glad you did.
