Once you get your focus, the next step is to keep your focus.
I spoke at a large conference for travel agents in Orlando a while back.
There was a LOT of buzz in the speaker preparation room.
Keep Your Focus
It turns out that one of the key speakers gave her presentation on the wrong topic.
She was assigned a topic. (I don’t remember what it was.) The handbook named and described the topic.
But when the speaker got up in front she mindlessly called up the wrong slides and proceeded to give a talk on something totally unrelated.
She didn’t know she was off-topic until she got done, left the room and got back to the speaker ready room.
That’s tough.

It’s like me being assigned to speak about Facebook and I get up and deliver everything I know about Twitter.
Stay on Topic
Related … but not what I was asked to do.
It’s not that this speaker in Orlando was a rookie either. She just lost her focus. She did a great job for that matter, but on the wrong topic.
Think of it as a two-sport ball player showing up for his baseball gig with his football playbook.
Get your focus. Keep your focus. Find a way to not get distracted.
