The reason most cruise ship speakers don’t look like they need practice might surprise you.
The reason they look like they don’t need practice is because they have practiced so much. It makes more sense than you might imagine.
Practice does make perfect.
Churchill used to practice on his dinner guests. He would try out different lines, different expressions, just to see what kind of response he would get.
Graham used to give his sermons to the birds, bees, trees and fishes. He would spend endless hours listening to himself talk until things sounded just right.
Too often the first time a speaker hears something they say is the first time they use the thought in a lecture. Not a good idea.
Have you ever heard a speaker say, “That sounded a lot better in my head.”
If you want to give your cruise ship talks a real boost, practice them ahead of time.
4 Ways to Get in More Practice at Speaking
Volunteer at a senior center to give the talk. Who knows, it might even turn into a full time paying gig. Ask Rick.
Volunteer to present at a Meetup in your area. Meetups are often looking for good content.
Invite friends over for a meal. Or head to the local pond and see if you can get the critters to listen.
But, by all means, practice.
We can get you on board.
