
It’s cool to be able to speak off the cuff, extemporaneously. And it’s really cool if you can do it well.
In most cases speakers who do this well, have a deep reservoir to draw from things they have used in the past or have thought through at length.
Plan to Do Well
Cruise Line Speakers are likely to never be able to pull this off.

One reason being: the ship requires visuals – powerpoint, keynote and the like. I use Prezi. You can’t even get on the ship if you don’t have a slide deck to go with your talk.
And nobody can throw a slide deck together in an instant.
I can give talks in a moment’s notice. And I can give visuals if I have wi-fi. And I have enough generic slides/talks, that I can pull one up and talk from those.
Plans A, B, and C
But it’s because I have a plan to do well. And I have a plan B and C as well, just in case.
If you want to boost your skills as a cruise ship speaker, you need to plan your talks and your visuals and for the eventualities that are sure to find their way to you.
You cannot speak a lot and not expect something to go wrong sometimes.
