
Layer your Message to go from good to great.
This is the first in a series of articles I am writing about adding layers to your presentations to make them great.

Nobody can go wrong by delivering well on the first layer. In fact, if you don’t have the time or the know how to do the others, just do this one.
Deliver the content you were assigned to deliver.

Recently I was invited to travel for free on the Azamara Quest along with my wife. I was one of the Special Interest Lecturers. My assigned topic was Social Media for Cruiser.
Over the course of the week, had I explained that Facebook is this, Google+ is that. Here is what they do and here is why people do them and who does them. And then sat down, I would have delivered on my assignment and say, “I did good.”
Not a few speakers are asked to tell us how to do A. They tell how to do A and everybody goes home happy.
That’s delivering on the first layer of a presentation.
And there’s nothing wrong with that IF you are satisfied with good.
But how do you do great?
