This is the second in a series of posts on bringing excellence to your cruise ship presentations.
The first ingredient is confidence sometimes referred to as faith. These posts are not listing the ingredients in order of importance, but if I did, this ingredient might go first.
Speech is the next ingredient.
I don’t mean you have to know how to make audible sounds come out of you mouth. Nor do I mean you have to know how to talk. Those are a given.
What I mean by speech is that your words reflect clearly who you are.
- Your words reflect that you are knowledgeable.
- Your words reflect that you have integrity.
- Your words reflect that you sincere.
You can try to fool people into thinking you are really an expert, that you really care about them, but your speech will either confirm this to be true or betray you.

If you cuss like a sailor while you explain the origins of the cathedrals in your destination, there is a disconnect.
If the listeners would blush when they sit down with you at the buffet because the subject matter and examples you lean toward in your presentation, there is a problem with your speech.
I followed a fellow on one cruise whose every example was something sexual. I also saw him eating alone in the buffet.
Talk to Mom and Dad
A good rule of thumb is to think of your parents or grandparents in the audience. How would you talk to them? How do you want them to think of your character by the words you use?
Speech that reflects solid character is an important ingredient in the formula to achieve excellence in your cruise ship presentation.
