These tips are good to know whether you are speaking on a cruise ship or having to travel to your speaking destination.
Tips:
1. Arrive early. Fly in the day before. Make sure there is enough time for things to go wrong. Because go wrong they will. Have you ever met that guy named Murphy. I just got back from speaking on a cruise ship out of Fort Lauderdale to Cozumel. I spoke 4 times. I was asked to be at the venue 30 minutes early. I was there 45 minutes early. Even so, the tech support often didn’t show up till 15-20 minutes before. But by the time he got there, I had rehearsed everything over in my mind so much I was ready and zip zip zip I was hooked up and ready to go.
2. Stay late. Don’t run off the stage to your stateroom, the buffet, the gym or your car. There’s something about being ‘up’ on a stage that gives the speaker distinction. Attendees want to touch you, not physically, but make a connection. Give them the chance.

3. Hang out. Try to meet and greet people any way you can. They may or may not show up to hear you speak but you can bet you will get good fodder for your talk, something to weave in that will make your talk immediately relevant. “While we were eating dinner, Joe said ….” Whether Joe is there or not, people will be able to relate to what Joe said.
Applying these 3 tips alone will bring immediate improvement to your presentations … especially on a cruise ship.
