I want to continue to improve. I like to think I am pretty good at what I do. I get good feedback when I speak on board. But I still want to improve. Do you?
3 More Hard Ways to Improve Your Cruise Lecture
3. Plan to do well –
It’s really cool when you see lights go on in your listeners … when you pause and notice that they are making the connection to something you said early on and a point you make later on.
Connections aren’t made, lights do not go on unless you place those nuggets in your talk.
4. Tell Stories –
Your audience wants to relate to you. They do not want to know how much you love your cat. They might laugh. But listen carefully to how deep, or shallow the laughter is. Now tell a story that your audience can empathize with, funny or sad or otherwise. Then listen to the response. It’s different.
5. Practice, practice, practice.
A guy walking down the street in NYC asked somebody, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?”
“Practice, practice, practice.”
The words and gestures and facial expressions should come out easily and effectively because they have come out that way so many times before.
Work these 5 steps and you will be a better cruise ship lecturer the next time you are on board.
