Independence and freedom go hand in hand.
It’s tough to be creative when you are under the thumb of a bigger entity.
But then a lot of people, most?, cannot function independently. People need structure, control in their lives.
But when you are able to function independently, to turn left or right when you feel like it, as opposed to having to ask for permission, the creative juices can and will flow and your cruise ship lecture will change.

Independence allows for pursuing whims, hunches, inclinations … and more often than not it is in those areas where something new is found.
Inasmuch as possible, take ownership of your presentations and you will be freer, the door will be wider open for the creative juices to flow.
I used to give Navy Intelligence briefings to the Commodore in the Far East. There was a prescribed method for doing the briefs but I didn’t know that. I did my own thing.
In the midst of gasps, head shaking and finger wagging I got my point across. And even got a smile out of the curmudgeon Commodore. I was also told to ‘knock it off’ in future presentations.
To be sure, the first one was never forgotten.
