In my previous post in this series on how to be a more creative speaker, I wrote about Tyler. Ty is just over half my age but has 2-3 times the experiences I do. Or maybe he remembers more than I have forgotten.
Rick, the other principal here at Speak on Cruises has a few years on me. He also has a huge bucket full of items checked off on his list of must-dos, compared to my thimble full.
To be more creative, you need to experience life.
Related: Book Bill to talk about his encounter with a witch in the Soviet Union.
A deep well of experiences that have been lived as opposed to just read about make for a very rich archive that can turn any talk into a fun experience for the speaker AND the listeners.
Event planners = the people who hire speakers are looking for transparent experts.
The event planners want speakers who can tell personal stories that are interesting, relevant, real and can touch on emotions from glad to sad in the audience.
The best way to that is to be nearly eaten by a shark, to roll your motorcycle over in a ditch, to nearly poke your eye out, … get picked up by the KGB, taken to meet a witch, roam Red Square during the Soviet era …
Experience life and you’ll be a more creative speaker.
