Have you ever asked somebody their name and what they did and found yourself several minutes later still listening? Or maybe not listening?

Being able to introduce yourself in less than 10 seconds is important when you are trying to meet a lot of people in a short amount of time.

“I am Bill Belew. I am a social media marketer. I did not dress the King.”

No fair talking fast either.

Meeting people before you go on stage is not about you, the speaker, anyway. It’s about them.

Give them your very quick and dirty version and let them do the talking. Better yet, let them talk and you give them your version only when asked. You’ll have enough opportunities to tell them who you are when you are on stage. Don’t forget, the cruise or activity director will be introducing you as well.

The point, of course, is to keep things very short. The less said the more remembered.

When I am working an audience, I am looking for ways to tie in something I have just heard with something I am about to say.

Remember, your talk is always about them, for them.
