The Titanic 2 still planning to sail. Change in launch date, itinerary announced.

I like to keep yall informed of happenings in our industry. As a cruise ship speaker, it’s good to talk-the-talk with passengers. Here’s the latest on the plan to build a modern SAILING replica of the ill-fated Titanic.

Clive Palmer

Clive Palmer pushing Titanic 2

Rich Australian Clive Palmer, has gained a lot of notoriety for his plan to build – are you ready? – a working replica of the Titanic.  Same size, look and feel, but with modern underpinnings….and plenty of lifeboats! Yes, with 3 classes of service just like the White Star ship that went down in the north Atlantic.

The latest plan is to build the ship in China, get it to Jiangsu, China and head to Dubai for the ship’s maiden voyage. Clive originally planned to sail once from England to NYC as the original did…sans iceberg stop!

Now it is announced that it will be launched in 2018. This is about 2 years behind previously stated dates. Many think it will never happen. The original ship was owned by the White Star line. This new venture is run by the Blue Star line. How cute.

Clive is now said to be meeting with several UAE companies for partnership deals on the project.

The company has said: “It is people looking to use the opportunity of the trademark and licensing potential of the project… We own the Titanic II name and trademark and people are lining up to be part of it.”

Blue Star has held events to publicize the project in the US, Canada, Asia and the UK and more events are planned throughout the year. “We have one coming up in Australia on the 11, 12 and 13 of August and then we have a plan of events into next year,” stated their marketing department.

The Titanic 2 will be way more “invincible” than the original. It will be 12 feet wider and will use welds not rivets.  Inferior rivets were used in the Titanic which may have contributed to the weakness of the hull. Of course, it will be 21 century equipped.
