Recently, we told you about the beautiful Cayman Islands. A jewel in the Caribbean. Can you imagine after your speaking hour, you head to the railing and regroup. Gazing out at the open sea you watch a dot on the horizon get closer and closer. Then you see that it’s actually a small boat.
Word is out that 24 Cubans were trying to get to freedom by riding the waves to Honduras. That’s what the crew of the Carnival Paradise saw as they moved towards Cayman. The ship decided to help them as the boat didn’t look like it would make it much further.
The Paradise picked them all up and gave them needed water, fed them, dressed them in new clothing and put them to bed. A medical exam was done. This is becoming modus operandi. Refugees try to get to Honduras. From there they scoot to Mexico then up to a US border.
Per an agreement between Cuba and the Cayman Islands government, the Cubans will be sent back. That’s the same for the US. In the mid-‘90s, literally thousands headed out of Cuba for anywhere else.
Nice place to live. NOT
