Situated 600 miles from Ecuador, the twelve islands that make up the Galapagos comprise a virtual Garden of Eden. They were formed by volcanic activity five million years ago. Tectonic plate movement caused the older islands to shift east as a “hot Spot” of magma sat fixed.
Over time, eruptions occurred and created island after island. Presently, eruptions are taking place on the western islands of Fernandina and Isabella.
There’s your geology lesson. Now the animals.
How did they get there? Simply riding driftwood or flying. Give it five million years and a lot can get there. Four major oceanic currents flow bringing penguins, albatross, flamingos and iguana to name a few. And, of course, the giant tortoises. The result is a place with a collection of fauna that has never been harassed by humans. You can get a few feet from Blue Footed Boobies.

Celebrity has four ships that ply the fantastic Galapagos Islands. The names are pretty similar. The Xploration, the Flora, the Xpedition and the Xperience. They are sailing now. You can pick a small ship or a 100 passenger one. All island visits are via a rigid raft called a Zodiac.
Silversea is still building the Silver Origin. Classed as a destination-specific ship, it won’t be sailing until mid-2020.
In addition, the 100-passengers on this high-end all-suite ship will have butler service to every room.

As you can guess, the Silver Origin will set you back a bundle. They plan to have ocean-view bathtubs or showers. The line is jumping in with both feet: two more ships are in the works for 2022.
However you get there…just get there soon!
