Holland America is a great line. We’ve been on HK a couple times. This was in the ‘80’s, well before I started getting free trips by giving interesting lectures. In a recent blog, we did on Royal Caribbean beginning to trademark several names, Holland felt they needed to corner the Koningsdam name before others got it (?).

So what’s it mean? Koning in Dutch means king. It’s reported to be named for King Willem-Alexander. Well, at least the politically correct squad didn’t pressure them to remove “DAM” from the tail end. It might have ended up as Koningsdarn. LOL. I have no idea what dam is supposed to signify. Anyone out there know?
The ship will not be ready for the high seas until early 2016. It’ll be a decent size at 2,650 pax. Not gigantic, but still the largest for the Holland America fleet. And HA does have an need for speakers.
Give us a shout and we’ll fill you in.
