I firmly believe that cruise ship speakers need to be aware of what’s going on in this industry. As a member of the community, it’s important to be knowledgeable of the happenings so you can “relate” with passengers on your cruises. Here’s another bit of news you can share.
TheNational.ae reports that Richard Branson wants to build a cruise ship organization with Arabian Gulf investors. Branson is most known for his wealth, airline, space and many other projects, including the Virgin enterprises. His organization has engaged with the New York investment bank, Allen & Co, to select partners in the is new cruise ship venture.
The almost $2 billion project would initially comprise two ships targeting passengers for Caribbean and Mediterranean cruises. He will seek a younger market with entertainment and leisure opportunities on board the ships, making them attractive to the sub-60 year olds..
The Branson line would be based in Miami. While all this is preliminary, Branson is said to be looking at several potential Middle East investors. It’s known that Abu Dhabi and Dubai are very interested in tapping into the cruise market. Mina Zayed is now a permanent terminal for cruise ships. Also, Dubai recently upgraded the port at Port Rashid.

Having been to Dubai, I can attest to the rocket-ship like growth it is undergoing. The UAE is always looking for business opportunities. The world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, is the magnificent centerpiece of downtown Dubai, a new, world-class destination. A cruise line is the next logical step for them. Passengers would love to have the same level of comfort and attention that Branson’s Virgin air provides.
We shall see, and now you know.
