What Do Weight Loss and Speaking on a Cruise Ship Have in Common (Part 2)

In this introduction post, I explained how I came upon this 12-part series of Weight Loss and Speaking on a Cruise ship. Please take a look.

Here in part 2 I want to address question 2 with a twist.

2.) Do I have enough to nurture me? What do I need to feel more nurtured?

Grow as a Speaker

Grow as a Speaker

Am I growing as a speaker?

Question 1 addresses whether or not I am staying current in my topic or destination.

The question deals with growing as a speaker.

Are you a student of speaking?

Are you a student of presenting?

Do you like your powerpoints and that’s all there is to it? Or are you experimenting with other mediums to get your point across?

How about animated presentations? How about video? How about switching from lecture style to Socratic style? How about instead of 1-way presentations, making the presentation interactive? How about adding sound? What about changing up the pace of your talk? Have you played around with your choice of words? Have you worked on being more creative? Have you changed your stories around? Have you tried jokes? Anecdotes?

Are you exploring ways to make yourself a better presenter? Are you applying what you learn? Are you still a student of your craft?

These are all great questions of reflection?

Better yet, answer them. Act upon them.

Feed the speaker in you so that s/he can become better at your craft.

Your audience and you will be glad you did.
