In this introduction post I explained how I came upon this 12-part series of Weight Loss and Speaking on a Cruise ship. Please take a look.
Here in part 12 I want to address question 12 with a twist.
12.) What are you doing now to prepare for yourself 10 years from now?

This question puzzled me. It’s not about investing money, planning for retirement and such.
It’s about doing things for yourself and your audience that can have an enduring impact.
Have you ever asked yourself the question, “How will what I say right now impact the people in front of me 10 years from now? How will I be impacted by making this presentation 10 years from now?”
A bit heavy perhaps. But an interesting question nonetheless.
The truth is, not everything we say in a presentation has that much weight, is that important.
But it can be. Or at least something you say in your talk can be.
I regularly give talks on Social Media. Even when I am on the cruise ship.
In my work life, I emphasize that a good user of social media realistically has a chance to reach the world with his/her message. And with that in mind, the marketer has a chance to make an impact in the world. S/he really does.
When I deliver my talks on board ship, I emphasize that the creators of the various social networks dreamed big dreams. Not only did they dream… their dreams materialized. Organize the world. Connect the world. I tell my audience it is never too late to dream big. All the while I am talking about social media and social networks.
Speak as if what you are saying can have a lasting, 10-year and beyond, impact. Who knows? Your words might just be that far reaching.
Your audience will be glad you did and so will you.
Talk to us to get on board as a cruise ship speaker. You know you want to.
