Professional Speakers Tell the Same 2 Lies | How much and how often do you?

Speakers Say Yes

Don’t Shy Away from the Truth

Professional Speakers Tell the Same 2 Lies | How much and how often do you?

Professional speakers tell the same lies. Not the same lies as all people but the same lies as each other.

Of course, not cruise ship lecturers. They are, ahem, always honest. Yeah, right.

A couple of lies that all professional speakers tell –

1. they say make more money than they actually do.

Granted, a speaker might have been paid $1000 for one gig or maybe even more. But that’s not how much they always get paid. How about taking how much you got paid in your last 5 speaking gigs (honestly!) and dividing that up to see how much you really make speaking. For what it’s worth, golfers do the same. Somehow that really bad round or two doesn’t make it into their handicap calculation.

2. they say they are busier than they really are.

“I am busier than a cat covering crap on a marble floor.”

How many times did you speak in the last year? Again, honest answer. Now divide that into 365. Now is when the speaker is likely to include the non-paying gigs. But they don’t include them in the calculation for number one above.

Interesting, eh?

Why can’t we all give straight answers to straight questions?
