How do cruise ships promote their special interest lecturers?

For sure, there is more than one way to skin a cruise ship speaker.

On my last cruise, the cruise activity director did a good job of promoting my talks. The times I spoke left a bit to be desired as well as the number of times I spoke. All said, they still did a good job of promoting me and my talks..

Every evening the ship puts out a guide of events for the next day. They have a bit of a write up to promote special events.

On this last cruise, I got top billing twice – the evenings before I spoke.

Inside the guide there is an event by event of activities that will be happening and when. My name and my topic for each time I speak.

Finally, the ship makes an announcement via the on board speaker system of special events for the day.

“Today at 10:15 and 2 Bill Belew will be speaking on Social Media.” That should be read in an Australian accent by the way.

As a result, people did show up for my talk … if they weren’t drunk or in a pool or sleeping off the night before.

Part of the application process is coming up with good titles and descriptions of presentations.

Here is where those titles and descriptions are seen.
